K104 FM and 1-800-Car-Wreck GiveawayTurkeys to those in Need This Thanksgiving

If you’ve been in an accident, whether your own fault or not, you may be scared about the possible legal consequences. You’re probably also dealing with the injury side of things and are trying to get over it and move forward as quickly as possible.

But if you’re involved in a car accident, an experienced personal injury lawyer can help you get the compensation you deserve and the treatment that will speed up your recovery. Here’s what you need to know about how to find one and what they can do for you if you have been injured in a car accident.

How K104-FM heard about my clients

On Wednesday, November 22nd, K104-FM Dallas, TX's Dede McGuire Fan Page called Witherite Law Group after her husband's accident. They told us that they had seen our client on the news when he was interviewed about his accident and wanted to know more. They also mentioned that they would like to do something special for him during this difficult time.

That following Friday morning, a stranger reached out to us through our website inquiring about how we could help them with their car wreck injury claim. We advised the caller of the process and she left a voicemail message with her contact information so we could call her back. On Saturday night, we received another inquiry from someone who read about my firm online and wanted some additional information about what type of personal injury lawyer I am and what services I provide.

Since then, there have been two or three calls per day from people who were looking for a personal injury attorney because they've been hurt or injured due to an accident.

How they helped my clients

I was so surprised when I received a call from the K104-FM Dallas, TX's Dede McGuire Fan Page. I had never spoken to them before, but they told me that my client had been mentioned on the air and they wanted to help. They asked for contact information for me and for my client so that we could get in touch with each other.

They followed up and said that he was in critical condition and then thanked us for calling them back because it helped them to know what the situation was like. When I got off of the phone with him, I contacted a colleague of mine who specialized in these cases and made arrangements for him to meet us at the hospital as soon as possible. After he arrived at the hospital, it seemed like everything happened very quickly.

He called his wife (the fan page) who was able to make all of her husband's decisions since she wasn't present at the time of accident and told her that if there were any complications during surgery or if anything came up while waiting for doctors' reports, she should not hesitate to call them back or give their number out to anyone else who might need legal advice following an accident.

How we won the giveaway and got over $2,000 worth of turkeys

Witherite Law Group was contacted by the Dede McGuire Fan Page after the owner of the page, Dede McGuire, saw that we were giving away over $2,000 worth of turkeys. The Fan Page was interested in what type of turkeys we would be giving away and how they could enter. We told them that they could enter by liking our page and commenting on the post. They followed these instructions and won one turkey! Our office will be sending them an email with information on how to collect their turkey.

How you can benefit from this story

Lawyers are the experts at helping you navigate the legal system. The best way for you to find a personal injury lawyer is by asking friends or family for referrals, but if that doesn't work, here are some resources:

- The National Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (NAPIL) offers an attorney search engine on their website. Just enter your state and zip code and they'll provide a list of attorneys near you who are qualified and experienced with car accidents.

- The American Bar Association has also put together an online directory of attorneys. They're searchable by name, location, area of specialization and whether they offer free consultations. Once you've found a few potential lawyers, ask each one for contact information from previous clients who have been through similar situations. That will help you figure out which one will be able to fight for your rights the best.

-If it's hard for you to talk about what happened, there are other ways to find help. Look up how much medical bills and lost wages cost on websites like Quicken Loans' Cost of Living Calculator or Google average cost of living. Write down these numbers so that when it comes time to speak with an attorney, you can show them this data and start talking about getting compensation from the person who caused your accident as well as potentially suing them in civil court.

It is never an easy time when you need legal help. Whether it is because you have been injured, you are being sued, or someone has died, there is no way around the complexity of the legal system. The more you know about what to do and what not do before contacting your lawyer, the better off you will be.

The following information will help guide you through what happens after an accident and how to find a good attorney:

- If at all possible, take pictures of any injuries with your phone so that they can be documented right away. Do not worry if it seems minor and think that it won't matter; any kind of injury needs documentation.

- Take down names of witnesses who saw what happened. A lot of people don't bother doing this, but having other people vouch for your story can make a huge difference in court. Sometimes these people will even come forward on their own because they feel guilty for not helping the person out who was hurt.

- Call the police and file a report as soon as possible if you believe that another driver may have been negligent and caused the accident. Be sure to give them as many details as you can about what happened, including things like where it took place (exact street address), which lanes were involved, speed limit signs nearby, weather conditions etc. The police officer should ask you questions such as What color was traffic light? or Was there a stop sign? Make sure to answer honestly!

When you're thinking about hiring a lawyer for an accident, it can be tough to know where to start. There are plenty of lawyers out there who specialize in specific areas or cases, so how do you know which one is right for you? The first thing you should do is contact the insurance company that pays your medical bills and ask them if they have an accident lawyer on staff.

If they do, then this is probably the best bet because they're already working with your case, and everything will be taken care of under their umbrella. However, if they don't have anyone on staff, then it's best not to sign anything until you've talked with an independent lawyer before making any decisions.

Why? Because signing things like waiver forms could end up being a mistake that costs you thousands of dollars. For example, by signing a form waiving liability from the insurance company after hitting your car without knowing what it says, you might give up rights to compensation for pain and suffering. The same goes for accepting an offer of settlement from the other driver's insurer; it's always important to consult with a lawyer first before making these types of agreements so that you know what kind of protections exist in your situation.
